Biography (in English)
Brice was born in Narbonne in Southern France. He started to play the double bass with Jean Ané before leaving to study at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands under the supervision of the bass players Knut Guettler, Hein Van de Geyn, Jean-Paul Everts and Frans van der Hoeven and of the composer Cornelis De Bondt. His final exam was qualified to be ‘’historical’’ by the headmaster as Brice was the first student to have followed successfully both the classical and jazz educations in parallel. After his studies, Brice goes for some time to the equatorial rain forest of Cameroon to live with a population of Baka pygmies. When he comes back to Europe, he devotes himself entirely to creative music. He tours with several ensembles of new music in the Netherlands (MAE, Klang, De Volharding…) and is part of the string ensemble Jargon of Maurice Horsthuis. He is soloist with l’Orchestre de Montpellier for the creation of the opera Jetzt of the german composer Mathis Nitschke, and travels all around to play improvised music and jazz. Today, B.S. plays in several ensembles and focus principally on his collaborations with Harmen Fraanje, Toma Gouband, Joachim Badenhorst (Rawfishboys, Carate Urio Orchestra), and on the trio 3/4 Peace with Ben Sluijs and Christian Mendoza. Brice has about 25 albums to his record, and takes care of the label ASTROPI together with Toma Gouband and Harmen Fraanje. He has played / recorded with musicians such as Nelson Veras, Malik Mezzadri, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Michael Moore, Mark Feldman, Peter Evans, Alexi Tuomarila, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Philippe Catherine, Lotte Anker… Brice has been guest teacher in several conservatories of music such as Copenhagen, Århus, Antwerpen, Gent, etc...

Brice est né à Narbonne en 1979. Il a débuté la contrebasse avec Jean Ané avant de partir étudier au Conservatoire Royal de La Haye (Pays Bas) sous la supervision des contrebassistes Knut Guettler, Hein van de Geyn, Jean-Paul Everts et Frans van der Hoeven et du compositeur Cornelis De Bondt. Son examen final a été dit être historique par le proviseur pour avoir été le premier élève à poursuivre avec succès les éducations classique et jazz en parallèle. Après ses études, Brice part vivre pour un temps avec une population de pygmées Baka dans la foret équatoriale Camerounaise, et dès son retour, il se dévoue entièrement à la musique créative. Il tourne avec plusieurs ensembles de musique contemporaine aux Pays Bas (MAE, Klang, De Vohlharding, etc…), est soliste avec l’Orchestre de Montpellier pour la création de l’opéra Jetzt du compositeur allemand Mathis Nitschke, et parcourt l’Europe pour jouer de la musique improvisée et du jazz. B.S. joue dans de nombreux projets et ensembles et se concentre aujourd’hui principalement sur le trio Fraanje/Soniano/Gouband, sur sa collaboration avec le clarinettiste belge Joachim Badenhorst (duo Rawfishboys, Carate Urio Orchestra), et sur le trio 3/4 Peace avec Ben Sluijs et Christian Mendoza. Brice a enregistré une vingtaine de disques et vient de monter son label Astropi en collaboration avec Toma Gouband et Harmen Fraanje sur lequel il s’apprête à sortir son premier disque en tant que leader. Il a joué ou enregistré avec des musiciens tel que Nelson Veras, Malik Mezzadri, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Michael Moore, Mark Feldman, Peter Evans, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Philippe Catherine, Lotte Anker… Brice est appelé de temps à autres à enseigner dans différents conservatoires ( Copenghague, Århus, Gand, Anvers, etc...). Après avoir vécu 20 ans à l'étranger, il est maintenant de retours dans le sud de la France.
